Greetings. Welcome back to the ETC blog. I hope you’ve been feeling yourself over the last week, if not totally yourself, maybe a bit self-ish. (Yes, you’ll have to read that opening a couple of times!) I was intending to look at the importance of ‘groups of words’ this week, but will save that for next week in response to those readers who accessed the OUP word list and were horrified to discover the number of words which have now been removed from the dictionary. The following article in The Guardian mourns the removal of nature words such as ‘wren’, ‘conker’, and ‘adder’. The reason for their removal?

They were considered ‘outdated’ https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/sep/18/dewilded-dictionary-conkers-adders-lost-words-robert-macfarlane-jackie-morris

Never fear though, selfy-stick is still there. (Is it a kind of glue?)
Have a nice week. Next time we’ll get back to the groups of words.
